Nissan Ariya vs Tesla Model Y

Posted at Tue, Aug 20, 2024 3:00 PM

Since entering the market, the 2024 Nissan Ariya has been one of the latest and greatest electric vehicles. To make it easier for buyers to happily get into an Ariya, the entry-level trim, Engage, has been discounted by $3,600, and other trim levels up to $6,000. The base MSRP for the 2024 model is $40,980.

Trim Levels And Battery Packs

For 2024, buyers can choose from nine different trim variations when shopping for the new Nissan EV. These trim levels include the Engage, Venture+, Evolve+, and Empower+, which come standard with front-wheel drive. The Engage e-4ORCE, Engage+, Evolve+, Platinum+, and Platinum+ with 20” wheels all feature e-4ORCE all-wheel drive technology. Depending on the trim level chosen, the Ariya has either a 160kW, 178kW, 250kW, or 290kW motor.

Power And Performance

In the hands of MotorTrend Magazine, the Ariya has decent to good performance. The base models with a single motor produce 214 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds. Stepping up to the dual-motor setup, which produces 389 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque, sees that number drop to just 5 seconds.

No Range Anxiety Here

The Ariya has a good driving range across all trim levels.

How The Ariya Stacks Up To The Tesla Model Y

Compared with the Tesla Model Y, the Nissan Ariya features standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a feature no new Tesla has. MotorTrend, in a comparison review of the Model Y and the Nissan, said, “The Ariya, on the other hand, features a distinctive design that’s paired with more luxurious interior appointments, and its driver assistance technology strikes a solid balance between sophistication and reliability.”

The Ariya Is The Perfect Non-Tesla EV

The 2024 Ariya is a perfect EV for those who have Tesla fatigue. While there is no doubting the abilities of a Model Y, the Ariya offers a more physically and emotionally appealing option at a great price. The Nissan isn’t about speed or trying to impress with its performance. Instead, what it gets right is giving customers a good experience that feels more like a car that has been in production longer than it actually has been. As MotorTrend said, “The Model Y’s cabin will appeal to minimalists; the Ariya’s dual displays and premium materials make it feel like a more upscale product.”
