Nissan Versa Proves That A Quality New Car Can Be Less Than $20,000

Posted at Thu, Aug 15, 2024 12:00 PM

The 2024 Nissan Versa is currently the least expensive car sold in America, which is an excellent thing for people who either don’t have the money to buy something more expensive or just plain don’t see the need to spend so much on a new car. It’s a lot of car for the money, too. For just $17,820, you can get a vehicle with all of the most modern safety and technology features available on cars costing double or triple the price of the Versa.

2024 Nissan Versa Reviewed By Motor1

In a recent review by Motor1.com, a well-known website that features new car reviews, industry analysis, and more, the author found the small Nissan refreshing, not just because of its low cost but also because it drives well, has plenty of features, and is still available with a manual transmission as standard equipment.

All of The Features of A $40,000 Car For A Lot Less

When describing the amount of enthusiasm he had for the Versa, the author said, “It's easy to see why people want the Versa. Even though it is inexpensive, it doesn't feel cheap. The base S model has a decent 7.0-inch touchscreen, Nissan's Safety Shield 360 suite standard (which includes automatic emergency braking, a lane-departure warning, and high-beam assist), and the most headroom and legroom of any car in the class. It's comfy. Even the fully loaded SR model I drove costs less than $23,000. That gets you a bigger 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, adaptive cruise control, fancy paint options (like Scarlet Ember), and cloth seats with a faux leather-trimmed dash.”

Engine And Trim Levels

The 2024 Versa is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-4 engine that produces 122 horsepower and 114 lb-ft of torque. It is available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Buyers can choose between three different trim levels: the S, SV, and SR. The Versa also has the largest trunk capacity of any car in its class, with 15 cu.ft. This is more than the 12.6 cu.ft. buyers of a 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will get for $50,000.

Saving A Ton At The Pump

One of the main reasons people buy smaller cars, though, is their fuel efficiency. If you can’t afford a hybrid or electric vehicle, a small gas-powered car is one of the best ways to save money at the pump. This is something Motor1 highlighted: “Where the Versa will really win you over (if it hasn't already) is at the gas pump … the Versa still returns 32 miles per gallon in the city, 40 on the highway, and 35 combined. It's one of the most efficient non-hybrid cars in America.”

In Conclusion, It’s Worth Every Penny

Ultimately, the 2024 Versa is a car that most Americans can easily fall in love with thanks to its thoughtful list of features and amenities for an easy-to-swallow price. Motor1 said, “The Versa has nearly everything you need at a price that makes sense for everyone. It's a … $20,000 car that, frankly, more people should be driving.”
